There is a difference between the roles of Sales and Marketing.
Here is a 30,000 foot examination of understanding the roles of Sales and Marketing within an organization or with regard to the activities associated with getting a product to market.

Most of us tend to think the term "Sales" and the term "Marketing" are synonymous and so we use the terms interchangeably. But let's break down the ideas associated with the two terms. Let's do so with a simple chart:

                   Sales  Activity

o  Activity: Sales, Selling
o  Converting Prospects into clients
o  Takes the warm leads and extends an "Offer" and a "Call to Action" to the prospect to become a
     customer

                  Marketing Activity

o  Activity: Driving traffic to your business, raising awareness in the marketplace that enables
Salespeople to get in front of the customers and exercise their selling skill.
o  Education of Prospective Client concerning the relevant issues associated with a purchase
o Identifies Prospects and creates an interest  within the Prospect(s)
o Responsible for "warming up" the prospects - so that the prospects want to know more and to try the
   product or service.
